Volunteer Center Programs
In addition to the Volunteer Center's daily operations which include matching individuals with available volunteer opportunities and supporting volunteer managers with training and resources, the Center also organizes several community-wide initiatives throughout the year to promote volunteerism.
Project Fresh Start is a community-wide effort to send children back to school prepared to succeed. Volunteers collect and distribute donated school supplies to children in need.
Held the last Saturday of October, volunteer teams rake leaves for elderly individuals and people with disabilities.
New this year! The Volunteer Center is teaming up with the Stevens Point Journal to honor volunteers through a special publication available during National Volunteer Week.
In partnership with the Stevens Point Area Public School District, the United Way Volunteer Center helps distribute information about community youth programs to students in grades K-6. Eligible non-profit organizations can submit information about upcoming events and programs that benefit youth, and approved flyers are compiled and sent home with students on a monthly basis.
The United Way Volunteer Center makes it easy for individuals and groups to make a difference in the community by offering a variety of convenient, flexible, low-commitment volunteer opportunities to support various Portage County nonprofits. These projects are the core of our program and are called "Volunteer Center Managed Projects".
